The two first complete editions of Antioh Cantemir's “Satyres” are French language editions which were realised thanks to Cantemir's foreign entourage and di Guasco brothers among others. The article considers the genesis and the particular characteristics of the French language editions. The following aspects are examined: 1) history of Cantemir's relationship with di Guasco brothers; 2) contribution of di Guasco brothers to the redaction and the publication of the French version of “Satyres”; 3) comparative study of the Russian authentic text and its French translation. Much attention is paid to analysis of the translator's endnotes. Through the research, the conclusion was drawn that the translation was mainly coherent to the authentic text while the notes revealed deep divergences and targeted the specific linguocultural audience. It is shown that the information about Russia comprised in the French edition endnotes goes up to the oral sources and to such written sources as travel literature, while some notes reproduce stereotypes on Russia typical for the European Rossica of the Enlightenment.
