In this article, demonstrative consumption as an attribute of modernity and the consumer era is considered in the context of the archaization of Russian society. The main reason is the lack of readiness and inability to adequately adapt to the changing and complex social reality, in the Russian context, aggravated by the long-term crisis state of the most important spheres of life of society and the unpredictability of the exit from this state.
