The example of the outstanding Russian historian, philosopher, sociologist Alexander Sergeyevich Lappo-Danilevsky (1863–1919) shows the importance of anniversaries and memorable dates not only for constructing the image of a scientist in historiography and the memory of the corporation, but also for marking the evolution of the theoretical field and social order in the history of science. As the article shows, the history of the celebration of A. S. Lappo-Danilevsky’s anniversaries of goes back to the lifetime anniversary of 1915. There is a well-founded assumption that the significance of the anniversary as a tool for popularizing and affirming in science his own scientific school and
research program was fully recognized by the famous scholar himself. At different times in course of commemorations, not only various elements of A. S. Lappo-Danilevsky’s research program of, but also that academic and scientific-theoretical agenda, which was significant for the historiographic situation of a particular time became relevant. The focus of the article is eight memorable dates (memoirs) associated with A. S. Lappo-Danilevsky (1915, 1919, 1929, 1944, 1994, 2003, 2013, 2019). The author of the article convincingly shows that the nature of commemorations of different periods of Russian history was associated not only with the ideological climate of the era, the position of
the scientist’s students, but also with the range of tasks facing science. In the course of post-Soviet commemorations, the figure and the legacy of the scientist act not only and not so much as an object of study, but as a starting point for the theoretical constructions of historians, philosophers, culturologists, and sociologists. This circumstance clearly testifies to the outstanding importance of
the scientist for historiography and, in general, for the social and human sciences.
