The article deals with the special role of translation and interpreter in language practice. Translation as a type of communicative as well as intermediary activity is considered in its connection with different types of oral activity. The role of linguistic culture in practice of translation is emphasized. The cultural ap-proach to the definition of translation is referred to. Special attention is paid to the role of the translator in the modern process of inter linguistic and cross-cultural communication.
