The article considers the grounds for the study of journalism as one of the cultural institutions. The authors assess the possibilities and expediency of using institutional methodology for analyzing journalism. This way opens up prospects for the development of cultural studies of journalism as an actual scientific and disciplinary area of activity, which is traditionally organic for Russian scientific and pedagogical jour­nalism schools.
