Based on the analysis of long series of hourly sea level values, mesoscale level fluctuations associated with storm
surges and semidiurnal and diurnal tides are investigated. Interannual changes in the number of storm surges and
wind characteristics for the period 1971-2018 are estimated. New information has been obtained on the tides of
the Gulf of Finland, which suggests that when calculating storm surges, tidal fluctuations in the level must be taken
into account, especially in conditions of development of spring tide and / or tropical tide.
