The incompleteness which appears at the different levels of a text is being described in the article as the method to direct the reader's attention towards the especially meaningful parts of the text. Syntactic and semantic ways to express incompleteness as well as their role in the text composition are being observed as the phenomena influencing on the text perception by a reader. From the pragmatic point of view incompleteness contribute to finding of connections between the certain text units and inside the whole text. It also stimulates the reader's abilities to reconstruct additional circumstances of the unrolling of the situation. The existing of incompleteness in a text can be marked with the elliptic and incomplete sentences. It also can be created via montage text organization. Nonstandard usage of punctuation and paragraphic marks can also be applied. Some of these methods appear in classic prose and are being developed now. The modern reader obtains enough knowledge and skills to search for the covered senses in the text parts with the incompleteness of utterance. Examples taken from Russian literature of the XIX-XXI с. are used for illustrations.
