The authors touch upon the two aspects of the process of a personality self-development: the self-development as a spontaneous process and the self-development as a directed activity. The attention is drawn to the integral nature of the psycho-emotional well-being of a personality, including three main components: the prevailing emotional state, life satisfaction and the focus on self-development. The article reveals the results of an empirical research of psychological well-being, life satisfaction, a stable emotional state, personal development and the focus on self-development of teenagers. The article demonstrates the interrelation between the motives of the focus on self-development and the characteristic of the psycho-emotional well-being. The authors emphasise the importance of the obtained results for the practice of the contemporary education.
