In this paper the attempt of the multidisciplinary analysis of film translation is described. The research was based on the comparative linguistic-stylistic analysis of the original text (Russian) and its translations (English and French). The film is understood as a communicative act. Therefore, the influence of the cultural component to the process of understanding the message is analyzed. First, the definition of cinematic discourse introduces as a constructed sign. From this point of view, the interactions of sound and pictures are considered. It seems logical to conclude that the perceptual field of the person watching a film is at the intersection of the musical modus, the modus of literature, the oral modus of verbal communication and the visual modus. Thus the polymodality of cinema discourse is indicated. Secondly, the linguistic code of the cinema discourse is considered. Finally, the results of a practical experiment on creating a subtitle sheet of the Russian film for Englishspeaking and French-speaking audience are presented. The plot of the film is based on the text of the dramatic poem by Marina Tsvetaeva «Phaedra».
