The article discusses the Baltic region as one of the most developed transnational macro-regions, with the region formation process continuing on the basis of strengthening and developing of various ties among the economic subjects of the region, institutions of the social sphere, non-commercial organizations and organs of political power. An important role in this process is played by the sea-shore cities of the region, composing the nucleus of the Union of Baltic cities. Formation of transborder regions, including those on the Russian bore, is another significant aspect of the process.
