This article is devoted to Osip Mandelstam’s critical prose of 1910-1920s, considered in the mainstream of the Silver age culture as a “system” and designated as “essayistic criticism”. It is concluded that the poet's critical works became both the foundation of his lyrical world and an important independent field of creative work.
