This article is devoted to the study of commemorations in honor of Alexander Sergeyevich Lappo-Danilevsky. The main question of the article is how the commemorations influenced the folding of the existing historiographical image of A.S. Lappo-Danilevsky. To answer this question, the author refers to all the commemorations dedicated to the scientist since 1915, when the 25th anniversary of the scientific activity of Alexander Sergeyevich was celebrated, until the conference 2013 dedicated to the 150th anniversary of his birth. The analysis of the commemorations showed that the perception of Lappo-Danilevsky's creative heritage largely depended on the historiographical policy pursued in Russia at different times. Thus, being ranked among the classics of historical science immediately after his death, the name of Lappo-Danilevsky was criticized in the Soviet years, when he was characterized as a “bourgeois historian” and “idealist”. Although even this form of mention is the result of a historiographical policy that meets the requirements of the social and academic order of the era but maintains the memory of it as a classic of the bourgeois methodology of history. After 1991 and fundamental changes in the life of the Russian state and society in historiography there is a new reading of the works of A.S. Lappo-Danilevsky, among which the most relevant is the “Methodology of history”. The crisis in the theory of historical knowledge in the late XX - early XXI century., leads to the fact that the “Methodology of history” occupies a special place among the works of Alexander Sergeyevich, making it primarily a methodology of historical science and belittling his merits as an archaeologist or sociologist. “The methodology of history” is perceived as the main work of A.S. Lappo-Danilevsky and moreover, it is tried to be applied even in architecture, law, music education, which is a reflection of the image of the scientist/memory of him in modern humanitarianism. It can be argued that the commemorations that took place in the late XX - early XXI century., created the existing image in historiography A.S. Lappo-Danilevsky mainly as a methodologist (in isolation from other elements of his scientific heritage). This situation was not only a reflection of the methodological search crisis for the historiography of the turn of the XX-XXI centuries, but also the very nature of scientific commemorations as social practices.
