The paper deals with argumentative discourse within the framework of cognitive approach in linguistics. Argumentative discourse is a written or oral text containing obligatory elements of argumentation, that is a standpoint and the arguments put forward in defense of the standpoint. Under the cognitive approach, argumentative discourse may be considered as discourse containing elements whose goal is to influence the recipient's view of the world by altering his values and beliefs. At the time of post-truth policies value (axiological) discourse and policy discourse are of great interest. The particular goal of the former is to alter the recipient's value view of the world and the goal of the latter is the persuasion of the recipient in the necessity (the absence of necessity) to perform certain actions.
