The rapid development of Hong Kong in the late XX - early XXI centuries is of growing interest for Russian and Western researchers, as well as the development of China, Chinese society and Chinese sociology in general. This interest is largely due to the nontrivial and specific features of the emergence and formation of sociological science in these areas. These processes are clearly different from those trends and patterns that were characteristic of the birth and formation of, for example, European, American or Russian sociology. The specificity of the formation of sociology was dictated by the specificity of the Chinese society itself, the peculiarities of its traditions and the ideological positions of Chinese science. Recently, a number of works have been published on sociology in the Chinese world, as well as sociology in Taiwan, but there is practically no information on the development of sociology in Hong Kong. Along with this, sociology in Hong Kong occupies a special place and plays an important role in the development of Chinese sociology in general. First of all, this role is important because sociology in Hong Kong acts as a link between world sociology and the sociology of mainland China, it is associated with the sociology of Taiwan and with the research of the North American Sociological Society of China, and finally, it has developed as an integral part of Chinese sociology.
