The paper examines the dependence of the pragmatic functions of the riddle on the type of its cognitive structure. The modelling of three basic types of cognitive structures of riddles for children is undertaken. The realization of the basic pragmatic function - identification of the encoded concept - is described, the connection of some secondary pragmatic functions with the type of the riddle cognitive structure is revealed.
