The article offers a new understanding of dilettantism as the characteristic of a modern worldview on the basis of assessment of information technologies development as of an element of human evolution. The intraspecific competition is defined as a factor of entry of new technologies into daily occurrence. Article considers the prerequisites of a new self-identification of human beings in connection to the development of the technological environment of their existence at the beginning of the 21st century. The modernity is characterized as the time of illusion of possession of information space. The paper traces the formation of a modern amateur making decisions and acting on the basis of an illusion of the direct interaction with the global environment of data. Authors come to the conclusion that opposition of human being and technologies does not allow to explain consequences of interaction between humans and new information space. The theoretical and methodological bases for such a formulation of the problem are the particular provisions of the theory of instrumental evolution of M. McLuhan, the concept of the post-modernity of A. Giddens, and the idea of “the flat world” of Th. Friedman.
