title = "To the history of the Armenian education in Russian schools of the Caucasus in the late XIX - Early XX centuries",
abstract = "The article is devoted to the problems of the Armenian education in the Russian schools of different levels at the end of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth centuries. The aim of article is to demonstrate conflict between policy of Armenian clerics and wish of the Armenian people and imperial authorities. The higher representatives of the Armenian - Gregorian Church aspired to popularize the Armenian language and God's law for children from Armenian families in the Russian schools. The aspirations of the Armenian clerics coincided with desire of Armenian enlighteners. It was difficult to get permission of the Russian authorities for the teaching of these subjects especially in the atmosphere of anti-Armenian moods in the Russian Empire at the end of the XIX century. The author finds out that it was not the only obstacle. As the Armenian prayers insisted on teaching God's law in Armenian language even if the children could not understand and read in it, some parents had to make their choice: they sometimes were against usage of Armenian language in the classes. This fact could demonstrate some degree of integration of the Armenian people into the Russian society.",
