N2 - The paper aims to explore to what extent the Russian elderly are involved in the usage of digital technologies. The research methodology is based on sociological survey conducted in 2015 (1084 respondents, stratified sampling quoted by gender, age and the place of residence). The sample included the residents of St. Petersburg and two regional centers who were 55+ years. The study revealed the routinization of seniors’ computer usage, showed the differences between the 3rd and the 4th age groups, explained the motives of computer skills developing such as professional and recreation motivations, investigated connection with computer usage and the trust to other modern technologies - mobile phones and ATMs, showed the rating of the Internet activities. The majority of respondents attended special courses, usually - free of charge. Overall, the practice of these groups didn’t differ much from the practices of the other computer- users: the elderly also spent more time in front of the monitor as the development
