A theorem on the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the Cauchy problem for the non-linear Boltzmann equation in a time interval which is independent of the Knudsen number for arbitrary values of the gradients of the hydrodynamic moments is proved. Estimates of the accuracy of the Hilbert method are obtained.
