N2 - Functionalized polynorbornenes with terpyridine and carbazole groups in pendant chains were prepared by metathesis copolymerization. The polymeric products prepared react with europium thenoyltrifluoroacetonate to form new carbon-chain copolymers with different ratios of organic and europium-containing units. The polymeric materials prepared were characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and elemental analysis. All the europium-containing copolymers exhibit strong metal-centered photoluminescence in solution and in thin film.
