N2 - The methodology of obtaining the morphometric characteristics of large ice features by means of the improved technology of water thermal drilling with the drilling rate record to a logger is discussed in the article. Possibilities of diverse application of technology of thermal drilling (also for study of physical-mechanical ice properties) and perspectives of its development are shown. Peculiarities of data processing and analysis by the internal structure of ice ridges and stamukhas are considered. Specific characteristics of delineating the consolidated layer of ice features are described. A general concept of study of morphometry and internal structure of ice features with application and interaction of different study methods (thermal drilling, tachometry and sonar surveys, video surveys) is proposed. The list of the main morphometric parameters and methods of their determination and a plan of field study of a large ice feature with indication of methodologies and main equipment are presented.
