N2 - A mechanical system describing by the second order linear differential equations with a positive parameter at the velocity forces and with time delay in the positional forces is studied. Using the decomposition method and Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, conditions are obtained under which from the asymptotic stability of two auxiliary first order subsystems it follows that, for sufficiently large values of the parameter, the original system is also asymptotically stable. Moreover, it is shown that the proposed approach can be applied to the stability investigation of linear gyroscopic systems with switched positional forces.
