N2 - The datafied society is a space with blurred boundaries, where terrorists find resources, carry out propaganda activities, and recruit new members, and from which it is possible to launch attacks against enemies everywhere in the world. The Internet is a meeting point of great achievements and no less great disappointments, big opportunities, and unprecedented risks. The use of social media, encryption, and drones in criminal aims shows the formation of a new reality: As new technology becomes widely available, terrorists will look for ways to adopt it. And there’s no doubt that the “bad guys” will continue to extend into emerging fields such as predictive analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), cyborgization, 3D printing, genetic engineering etc. The ability to communicate and influence is not always favorable for democracy. It is sometimes much easier to manipulate through the Internet. And terrorists do that extremely effectively with tragic results for people all over the world. This paper aims to evaluate the role of sophisticated technologies in counteracting terrorism on the Internet, directly linked to the development of a civil society.
