The document given below is the unique record of the period when rapid development of relations between the Safawids and the Romanovs was strongly supported and put forward by the efforts of the official trade representatives (Pers. kirakyaraqs, Rus. kupchinas). These officers were sent by both Shahs and Tsars aiming to sell their sovereign's wares and buying the required ones. Kupchinas enjoyed extensive privileges confirmed by the Shahs in a sort of duty-free “trade licenses” compiled as farmans. One of them sustaining status of the kirakyaraq Aqa Hasan and addressed to the voevodas of Astrakhan and Kazan is published below with a commentary and translated into English. Some remarkable features of the act are defined by two circumstances. Firstly Safi's farman is a renewal of another one granted by ‘Abbas I. Secondly it can also be seen as an official notification of the new Shah's accession to the throne in the early 1629.
