Photometric observations are used to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of Choloniewski’s method of analyzing the properties of a variable component in the light of active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Although there are flaws in this method, the colors of the variable component can be reliably determined (in the case of their constancy) by applying it judiciously.
