Digital information and communication technologies (ICTs) these days have deeply penetrated into cognitive practices and essentially define the image of modern science and educational system. Modern ICTs have become not only a tool for processing large arrays of data, but also a source and mean of presenting scientific and educational information in social and humanitarian spheres.
This paper considers narrative as one of the essential elements of historical knowledge. Its sociocultural basis and cognitive functions are analyzed in scientific discourse. The issues related to the transformation of traditional (text) narrative practices influenced by audio and video technologies are discussed. The authors propose a methodological program for adequate selection of tools presenting scientific narrative based on pragmatic and semantic characteristics of information resources that are created with the help of ICTs. This program is based on the concept of indirect communication, which was developed by Muskhelishvili- Schreider.
