Shear rate in fcc, bcc, and hcp metals under dynamic loading was determined experimentally by the method of reference grids. The impact deformation was shown to be a multidimensional process. The resistance to dynamic deformation and fracture under impact loading of fcc and bcc steels was studied as a function of grain size. The mechanisms of high-strain-rate deformation of different metals were compared.
