Present lecture notes address the courses of Thermodynamics and Thermology delivered at the Schools of Che
mistry and Physics in Harbin Institute of Technology. The synopsis gives the concept of thermodynamic equilibrium, em
pirical principles and analytical corollaries of the General Thermodynamics, it provides formalism of the state functions
and fundamental equation. Regularities in the behavior of thermodynamic parameters and functions are given with
regard to reversible and irreversible processes, an accent being made upon calculation of thermodynamic properties
and analysis of criteria for the equilibrium and direction of plausible processes in physical systems. The lecture notes
give a primary account of the issues pertaining to the stability of thermodynamic equilibria with respect to fluctuations.
A special concern of the course is focused in the discursive narrative of the discipline with a clear argumentative struc
ture from the encompassing articulation of the experimental laws towards simple mathematical machinery. The latter
circumstance procures grounds for mastering calculation routines of the phenomenological description of thermody
namic processes by students with no complexities in application of the basic knowledge in the calculus.
Apart from the lecture material, the synopsis contains a number of the calculative problems both as material for
interactive discussion in the classes and as assignments for the current control
