The carbene method for the synthesis of iminium ylides based on reactions of carbenes and metallocarbenoids with compounds containing a C = N bond is considered. Special attention is given to the use of iminium ylides in the synthesis of various classes of nitrogen-containing compounds. The bibliography includes 163 references.
