The electronic and steric influence of the substituents at a multiple bond and of the presence of a heteroatom in the molecule on the reactivity of compounds in relation to halogenocarbenes is examined. The mechanisms of the interaction of carbenes with single bonds are discussed and data on new methods for the generation of halogenocarbenes are reported.
