N2 - Triangular cationic belts [Au3{PPh2(C 6H4)nPPh2}3] 3+ enclose bimetallic clusters [AuwAgx(C 2Ph)yXz] in molecular aggregates obtained by halide (X)-directed assembly of multicomponent systems. The largest aggregate consists of a central metal alkynyl halide cluster [Au18Ag 30(C2Ph)36Cl9]3+ inside a [Au3{PPh2(C6H4)5PPh 2}3]3+ belt and comprises 51 metal atoms (see picture; Ag green, Au yellow, Cl violet, P red).
