Methodological aspects of the determination of atmospheric moisture content characteristics from actual Nimbus 4 satellite outgoing thermal radiation measurements are discussed. Theoretical and experimental values of the thermal radiation intensity are compared, the parameters of the radiation model are corrected, and vertical specific humidity profiles are retrieved. Examples of retrieval and the average accuracy characteristics of inverse-problem solution are included.
