N2 - Empirical relations are presented that allow a simple evaluation of the ground-state radial and angular expectation values from experimental structural parameters of van der Waals complexes. Measured dipole moments of the complexes are used to obtain upper-bound estimates for molecular octopole moments Q3(ClF) = 11 D Å2, Q3(HBr) = 16 D Å2. © 1988.
