This work is devoted to studying the aging of high-voltage silicone rubber insulation in the presence of salt fog. The impact of the fog is simulated by spraying a multitude of discrete droplets that settle on the silicone sample surface and roll down over it. Due to the occurrence of partial discharges between the droplets, the hydrophobic rubber becomes hydrophilic. The work examines how preliminary and subsequent water immersion of the samples affects the time of hydrophobicity loss and the water-repellent properties of the samples. Preliminary immersion can decrease the duration required for hydrophobic materials to lose their water-repellent properties. Subsequent water soaking tends to impede the drainage of water from an inclined sample.
