N2 - The development of an approach to finite basis sets for the Dirac equation was discussed. This approach was found to improve the convergence properties of basis-set calculations. The one-loop self-energy correction for a hydrogenlike ion was calculated for testing the efficiency of this approach. The results show that with the employment of DKB basis the accuracy of the results improves significantly.
