The explanation of how the deceptive magic of speech works upon the human mind begins in Gorgias' Encomium of Helen with an unclear assertion, literally: "of witch-craft and magic double arts are found which are errors of the soul and deceptions of the opinion" (ch. 10). General interpretation, let alone implausible conjectural criticism, try to interpret the as two actual "arts" like poetry and prose syntactically and semantically aligning in order to further combine those with each of the "arts". The present comment assumes that Gorgias speaks of only one art (plural being motivated by the synonymous pair), namely that of persuasion, which is single, albeit twofold, misleading the judgement and thus causing false beliefs of the soul in a way rather plainly described by Gorgias in the next section (ch. 11).
