The argument to death is a specific type of argument, either explicitly or implicitly appealing to the limit of human existence, used to increase the degree of persuasiveness of requests, wishes, threats, etc., or even to block the very possibility of communication. The illocutionary force of this figure is a measure determined on the scale of its means: from inductive generalization and the deductions it mediates, to bringing this generalization to the limit, to the threat of going beyond the existential boundaries of discourse, to the loss of the existential status of the subject area, to the physical implementation of the threat, making communication insignificant and its subject or even its opponent non-existent. Such argumentation is typical for “pre-logical” communities, with an undeveloped and unclaimed logical culture of social communication, with a goal-oriented rationality that appeals not to the law, but to force, not to freedom, but to arbitrariness.
