N2 - Hirschfelder-Silbey and Amos-Musher were the first to calculate the collisional hyperfine line shift for the ground state of hydrogen in a helium atmosphere using exchange theories of perturbation. The relationship between their result and later calculations based on other exchange perturbation theories is discussed. A more accurate equation for calculating the relative local hyperfine line shift is suggested which gives good agreement with experiment.
