This chapter discusses the role of values, culture, and rapid technological development as a basis of inherent problems in artificial intelligence (AI). Prominent theories are discussed, and examples are offered of failures of values along numerous dimensions related to AI. The unethical, malicious use of AI (MUAI), which is gaining momentum globally in countries with different political regimes and within different cultural environments, cautions readers that people and organizations with a low development of moral values controlling high technologies pose a growing threat to all humanity. Finally, we encourage strategic communicators to act as values managers (Bowen et al., 2006) within their organizations, championing the cautious, equitable, and examined use of AI in responsible ways. © 2026 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
