1. Medial-wall neurons in the frontal cortex of waking rats have a base discharge frequency of 0.1 to 10.8 impulses/sec. The reactions of the neurons to heterosensory stimulation are convergent in nature. Habituation occurs when rhythmic stimulation (flashes, clicks) is applied. 2. In the process of carrying out a motor program, 39% of the frontal cortex neurons reacted to a preliminary signal, 69% to a conditioned signal, and 54% during the delay period. During the performance segment of the program, reactions occurred in 85% of the neurons. 3. The presence of spatial-selective neurons in the medial frontal cortex in the rat indicate a connection between this structure and processes of short-term spatial memory.
