The focus of the research is an analysis of historiography and research prospects of studying the history of the St. Petersburg / Petrograd / Leningrad historical school. The author proposes to consider this historiographical phenomenon based on prosopographic methods, analyzing the biographical data bases prepared in the framework of collective research projects. The author highlights the main problems that, from his point of view, should be at the center of such research. Among them — the problem of institutional transformations of the science of Petrograd–Leningrad in 1917–1934, changes in the staff of the corporation of historians, the problem of ideological / socio-political order in the Soviet historical science of the post-revolutionary period.
