The article deals with lexicological and phonosemantic analysis of English verbs of motion with the particular meaning of “walk” and “go”. It touches upon the issue of the theory of sound symbolism. The material for the article was extracted from the works of modern English writers. An attempt was made to find the correlation between phonetic motivation and such characteristics of the verbs as the direction and speed of movement.
