Two points are considered in this article: the place of history among humanitarian sciences and the position of historian in the ancient society. The origin and high development of history in the ancient Greece were stipulated by the primary humanitarian character of the ancient culture, but among the historians only those obtained the official recognition whose works were serving the political interests of the state.
