abstract = "For the last years in the Russian Federation the numbers of children raised in residential settings have been decreasing while numbers of children in substitute family settings have been increasing. However, little has been published in Russia on attachment in children with institutional experience. The aim of the part 1 of this work is to analyze the peer reviewed publications of studies regarding rates of attachment types and associated factors in children living in institutional care. Studies using only observational assessments of attachment were analyzed. Results reveal that children living in institutional care settings showed much less often secure and more disorganized attachments compared to their peers in biological families. Improvements in the quality of institutional social-emotional environment might lead to the positive changes in the attachment distribution.",
