The paper presents a description of observational routine to obtain positions of radio stars in the system of any reference catalogue. The method was tested on observations made with the photoelectric transit circle. Old and new observations of radio stars made with the ground based classical telescopes are able to give sufficient contribution to the problem of the HIPPARCOS tie to the ICRF.
