In the last two decades in Bulgaria mass tourism has become especially popular, comprising two elements: the trekking routes on mountain trails, visiting memorial sites and volunteer services. This kind of tourism brings together a wide range of participants and promotes patriotic education of youth and approval of a sustainable model for local and regional development. An example of this type of tourism is a national campaign, "By the Footsteps of V. Levski" through the Central Balkan.
