N2 - Purpose. To demonstrate importance and determine specific features of participating in moot courts as an effective method of legal education. Methodology: empiric methods of description, comparison, interpretation and modeling, theoretical method of formal logic. Results. The tradition of including different moot courts in the course curricula at the St Petersburg University along with the wide acceptance of moot courts in foreign educational institutions demonstrates that mooting is a highly effective and balanced instrument to master the skills necessary to succeed in the legal profession. Popularization and formal inclusion of moot courts in a broader range of courses would allow the new generations of lawyers to achieve significant results in their academic and professional careers. The article invites to conceptualize the use of moot courts as an educational instrument and include it in various courses and programs in order to perfect practical education of law students by means of forming soft and hard skills and integrating the needs of the professional community into the educational process. Scientific and practical significance. The article may be of particular importance for structuring the educational process, both while studying law and social sciences, preparing students for academic career.
