N2 - Rocky talus (goltsy) is widespread within the mountain permafrost zone. They are characterized by several features of the runoff formation process and, therefore, are of interest for hydrological modeling and forecasting. In this study, the maps of spatial distribution of rocky talus in the Kolyma River basin have been developed based on six different satellite derived land cover/land use (LULC) products. The accuracy of rocky talus identification in these LULC products is assessed by comparison with landscape maps for the Anmangynda River basin and the Kolyma Water Balance Station (KWBS). The maximum F-measure values (0.88 and 0.85) were obtained when identifying rocky talus using Landsat-based Global 30 m land-cover dynamic monitoring product with fine classification system (GLC_FCS30D) data with a cell size of 30 m. It was found that rocky talus covers 44 256 km2or 8.4 % of Kolyma River basin area. Using long-term precipitation data from the ERA5-Land reanalysis and weather stations, as well as runoff observations for 1971–1990, the contribution of runoff forming on rocky talus to annual runoff in Kolyma River basin was estimated. The runoff/precipitation ratio in rocky talus was assumed to be 0.95 based on historical observation data. It was found that the proportion of the rocky talus area to the total basin area is a more significant predictor for the average annual runoff than the average slope, but less significant than the amount of precipitation according to the ERA5-Land data. The results of rocky talus mapping and assessing their contribution to the annual runoff can be one of the predictors of flood hazard, including ungauged basins.
