The article examines the activities of V.R. Menzhinsky during his tenure as Chairman of the OGPU (1926–1934) to perpetuate the memory of F.E. Dzerzhinsky. These activities were both a result of the previously established friendly relations between the two first Chairmen of the OGPU and measures aimed at strengthening Menzhinsky's position. The focus is on commemorative events, renaming procedures, and Menzhinsky's annual speeches dedicated to his predecessor. The establishment of educational institutions in the system of state security agencies, where the cult of F.E. Dzerzhinsky was formed, including the Central School of the OGPU, is particularly considered. The article also provides evidence of Menzhinsky's references to Dzerzhinsky's practice in handling investigative cases related to crimes committed by Chekist officers. V. R. Menzhinsky's memoirs about F. E. Dzerzhinsky are presented. The article is based on personal sources, archival materials from the Russian State Archive of Social and Political History (RGASPI), and materials from periodicals, including departmental publications. Many of the materials are being introduced for the first time.
