In 2009 was the 530th anniversary from the day of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Moldavia. In 1479 the Moldavian Hospodar Stephan the Great sent an ambassador to Grand Prince Ivan the Great with the proposal of the marriage of his daughter Elena, the daughter of his marriage to the Kievan princess Eudokia, to Grand Prince Ivan Ivanovich the Young, son of Ivan the Great. The following Russo-Turkish Wars not only seriously lightened the situation of the Danubian Kingdoms but opened the way for the future liberation of the Rumanian lands.
